Variations on Black...

Black. It goes with everything.

Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light.
Black is the lack of all colors of light, or an exhaustive combination of multiple colors of pigment. I suppose the hoods are the combination of multiple colors of pigment!

Black is a sought after accessory.

Black hoods are a challenge to describe. As you can see I work with many different textures and shades of black.

Furry. Fuzzy. Woolly. Soft. Flexible. Sturdy.

Ladybug Fairy Hoods are coming soon!

You may be familiar with the Ladybug Fairy hood that I've worn in some of the promotional photos. Well they are coming back to the shop very soon!
There are 4 different new black and red patchy variations;
1. is a thick, dense, wild, Furry, woolly, long hair, heavy weight wool (seen at the top of image 1 to the left)
2. is a dense, thick, short hair, medium-heavy weight wool (seen at the bottom of image 1 to the left)


3. is a lighter furry, long hair, still woolly and warm, will also hold up well over hard wear, wool (seen at the top of image 2 to the left)
4. is a fuzzy, short hair, flexible lighter weight wool (seen at the bottom of image 2).

I'll be trimming these lovely red and black hoods in these blacks. The top one is a furry, wild, Long hair wool. The bottom one is a shorter hair, fuzzy wool.


This color combo is near and dear to my heart and I'm very glad to be working with it again! My hope is that it will find happy heads to turn into Ladybug Fairies!

New Colors!

The mill has re-opened and I have recieved some amazing new colors! Here's a sneak peak at what is soon to come to the Etsy Shop!
Woodland Wool- This colorway is variegated Chocolate Brown, Tan, Black, Sage Green, and Cream. There is a fuzzy short hair which works up to make a medium weight hood and can be seen in this listing. There is also a long hair furry version that works up super wild and warm.




Almond Wool - This colorway is a mix of Cream and very light Tan, it reminds me of almond meat. It's soft, light weight, fuzzy, short hair. It works up to have stand up attitude and can be seen as the trim in this listing.




Sand and Sea Wool- This colorway is variegated Navy Blue, Bright blue, Slate Blue, and Sandy Tan. There is a Wild, Furry, super soft, long hair that works up thick and warm and can be seen in this listing. There is also a Fuzzy, Soft, short hair that works to a medium weight and can be seen in this listing.


Architect's Dance Wool- This colorway is variegated Red, Chocolate Brown, and Black, flecked with Yellow. There is a soft, fuzzy, short hair version and a Soft, Furry, long hair version.


Bloom Wool- This colorway is variegated Rose, Green, Dark Brown, and
There is a short hair and a medium length hair. It's woolier and sturdier for daily use, yet light-medium weight. This colorway can be seen in this listing.


Zebra Wool- This colorway is mixed Black and White. There is a short hair and a medium length hair.





Faerie Field Wool- This colorway is variegated Green, and Black with flecks of burnt Orange, Red, and Yellow. There is a soft, furry, long hair and a soft, fuzzy, short hair version. You can see the short hair version in this listing.


Indigo Tan Wool- This colorway is Deep Indigo Blue flecked with Tan. There is a soft, furry, long hair which works up wild and warm. There is also a soft, fuzzy, short hair which makes a lighter wight hood for all season wear!



Rain Dreams Wool- This colorway is variegated Bright Blue, pale Blue, Gray, Black and White flecked with Red. It's woolly, and a sturdy for every day use! There is a Furry, long hair version and a fuzzy short hair version.


Moss and Stream Wool- This color way is a patchy moss Green and a bright Blue. It's a sturdy and woolly in texture, perfect for outdoor adventures. There is a fuzzy, short hair version and a Furry long hair version. You can see the long hair version in the hat part of this listing.


I also received a small quantity of that elusive soft Moss Green! As seen in the first picture above. I'll be contacting the waiting list folks first, then it will be up for custom orders!

I just listed my 500th hood!

I feel blessed. I am grateful to be here, to make, to see the product of these hands. To feel the connection to every person who has helped me down this path. I'm grateful for all the lessons that lead me to this moment. For those who showered me with their faith, and those who played devils advocate to my strongest beliefs.

Thank the sheep for their incredible wool!

This hood found the most delightful head to keep warm and adventure with. It's even living near us here in Portland!

This one, in similar tones is up for sale in the Helping Others Street Team (HOST) shop. The HOST is a group of Esty sellers dedicated to helping one another. We know running your own wee business can be a challenge and sometimes things like flood insuance or health insurance fall by the way side...and then you need a little help. HOST helps out other Etsians in their times of need. The purchase price of the above hood will be donated to Etsians when they need it most!

About the hoods

Fairy Tale Fiber creations are handmade in the Pacific Northwest using sustainable materials. We use 100% wool selvage, which is a “waste” byproduct from the textile industry. This wool is so soft you could mistake it for cotton!

The Fairy Tale hoods are an exceptionally versatile design. You may choose to wear it like a hat and scarf to keep you dry in the pouring rain. If you get too warm, it flips down like a hood. You may find it handy as a satchel (just tie the scarflette and sling it over your shoulder) to forage for treasure while romping through the urban forest... These hats will become a furry tagalong you can't bear to be without.

Care instructions for Fairy Tale hoods: please hand wash in cold water; towel off excess water, then wear as it dries to make a perfect fit (if absolutely necessary lay flat to dry). Each Fairy Tale Fiber creation has its own personality. Love your hat and it will love you. Tease it and coax it in to the perfect shape, then wear it in the rain to set its shape to your head!

We require a 50% deposit for custom orders, paid after we have decided on materials and size. Custom orders may take as long as two weeks. Any hood that says OOAK or one of a kind can not be reproduced in a custom order.
